Finding the Messiah in Leviticus, November 7 th. Read, Leviticus 1:1-17.

Primers refer to the earliest form of reading instruction in book form.

“The New England Primer” is the single largest selling book in American history. It was the book from which most Americans learned their ABC’s throughout the 19th century and right through the 1960’s in many places. It used Puritan Christian rhymes to teach the alphabet i.e. ” ‘A’ in ‘Adams fall we sinn’ed all.”

Have you ever asked yourself, how did Jesus learn to read? “In ancient times the book of Leviticus was the first school reader of Jewish children.” (Excerpt From John Turner. “Lessons from Leviticus.” iBooks. ) Jesus, the author of Leviticus, learned to read like every other Jewish boy the book of Leviticus.

But it was not just a reading primer, but a how-to manual of holiness. We want to find Jesus; we must study the book of Leviticus. November and December are busy months full of holiday parties. Satan does not so much makes us bad as busy! Do not miss the reason for the season, Jesus!

Finding the Messiah in Leviticus, November 8th. Read, Leviticus 2:1-16.

Humans were created to be Eden explorers, with the Creator.   Instead, we chose to Blaze our own trail. This choice has caused us to dwell in darkness as monsters.

But we were designed to live in the light in fellowship with the Father. Our lives are spent trying to find our way back to Eden.

Leviticus Chapter one, verse three states; ‘If the offering is a burnt offering from the herd, you are to offer a male without defect. You must present it at the entrance to the tent of meeting so that it will be acceptable to the Lord.” Twice more in this chapter we are told the way back to the meeting of Eden, is a perfect male sacrifice.

Fifteen hundred years later we meet the Way to Eden; The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! John 1:29 Let us return to the only way back to Eden; Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6

The way of Jesus is the only way we can meet God again. Leviticus is one step on this path. Today, walk with Jesus!

Finding the Messiah in Leviticus, November 9th. Read, Leviticus 3:1-17.

In the book of Leviticus, we find five offerings. “The five offerings are:

Burnt Offering (chapter 1)

Meal Offering (chapter 2)

Peace Offering (chapter 3)

Sin Offering (chapter 4)

Trespass Offering (chapter 5)”

A common denominator in all five offerings is the one offering the sacrifice, laid their hand on the sacrifice or played a part in the creatures death. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23. Sin brought death to God’s universe. Now we can not exist without the death of other creatures. And ultimately it costs God’s only begotten Son, his life on the tree. (John 3:16)

3:1-17 A person gave a fellowship offering as an expression of gratitude and a means of maintaining fellowship between himself and God. The animal’s sacrificed life emphasized the value of gratitude and maintaining harmony with God. Neither peace with God nor thanks to God was to be considered a cheap or unimportant gift. The Lord’s portion was burned up and the rest was used for a fellowship meal between sinners. For the Israelites, their sacrifices maintained their relationship with God and were the foundation to loving each other. The peace or (shelamim) offerings maintained a relationship with God and man. Today, at the Lord’s supper we remember the sacrifice of Jesus for our peace.

Man does not exist unless other creatures, give their lives for their survival. Trust me, and meat does not come from sterile cellophane! There is not eternal life, unless God’s atoning sacrifices, dies for our sin. Today, be grateful for all of creation that has been sacrifice for your wholeness!

Finding the Messiah in Leviticus, November 10th. Read, Leviticus 4:1-16.

Everywhere, human beings avoid, if they can, having to deal with the reality of God. People do not want to even think of God. Most people become distinctly uncomfortable if any reference to God is interjected into a conversation-unless, of course, that reference is in the form of blasphemy. Taking God’s name in vain as become acceptable, but talking about the love of God or the demands of God upon our lives is a social taboo! People simply do not want to talk about God.

Why is that? Why is God such a painful subject to so many?

In Leviticus 4 and 5, we come to the fourth of the five Levitical sacrifices, the sin offering. Here we come face to face with a question that hangs over our world but which few people ever attempt to answer: Why do people fear and avoid God?

This is a question that goes all the way back to the dawn of humanity. In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve first walked in fellowship with God. In the cool of the evening, God would come and walk with them, and they were in perfect communion. Then Adam and Eve made a choice to obey the tempters voice instead of God’s. The first effect of their disobedience of God was that they hid from God when He came to walk in the garden-And humanity has been hiding ever since.

Why? Because sin produces guilt, and guilt alienates us from God. What was true in the garden is still true today. People fear God and hide from Him because of alienating guilt. Here in Leviticus 4 and 5, through the means of the sin offering, we see God dealing with the problem of human guilt. The Way to Wholeness Lessons from Leviticus. (2016). Discovery House Pub. There would be no peace with guilt or shame until, . . .The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! 12 And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.”

Finding the Messiah in Leviticus, November 13th. Read, Leviticus 5:11-6:5.

Last of the Levitical offerings is the guilt offering or sometimes called trespass. Many Christians use this offering as an explanation of the doctrine of original sin. “Jewish law is expressed in the Torah, the first five books of the Bible. The Torah does not directly concern itself with any teaching of original sin.” “The Hebrew name of the offering, the ‘asham’, may be the origin of our word ‘ashamed’.   If not, shame at least suggests the idea and can serve as an aid to remembering its significance.  When we offend in a social context against others and become guilty before men, we become ashamed of our actions.  The sin offering is to deal with our guilt before God.  The trespass offering is to deal with our failure and shame before men.” Excerpt From: John Turner. “Lessons from Leviticus.” iBooks.

The old saying is; “how much will your sin cost me?” We live in a broken world, where we are paying the price for my sin and ultimately the price other people’s sins. The cost of sin is what the guilt offering, is about.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16 Man’s guilt cost God the Father’s only begotten Son!

Finding the Messiah in Leviticus, November 14. Read Leviticus 6:6-18

“The burn offering is the most basic and original of all the offerings. This is the first offering, made by Abel. It is the offering of Noah after the flood. It is Abraham’s offering of Isaac by way of a ram at Mount Moriah.

The distinctive character of this offering is it’s simplicity. It was entirely burnt on the alter, hence its name. It ought to be more properly named, as it is in the Hebrew text, the “Ascending Offering” since from God’s point of view it is one that ascends in him in the smoke as an “acceptable fragrance: because of the faith and devotion it expresses.

The burnt offering is the first of the offerings, not only because it was the original, or because of its simplicity, but because it is entirely for God, the basic offering of worship. It represents Christ’s perfect death for us. It also represents the entire surrender of ourselves to God. Though a specified requirement in various circumstances, it was primarily intended as a voluntary offering.”

First he said, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offering and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them”-though they were offered in accordance with he law. 9Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.” He sets aside the first to establish the second. 10 And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Finding the Messiah in Leviticus, November 15. Read Leviticus 6:19-30

In Leviticus 4 & 6 we have different parts to the sin offering. What is strange is the sin offering was to be sprinkled seven times before the Lord.

Why? those who sinned must see their blood on the altar. Sinners must know that their sin is covered and forgiven. Only as people know they are forgiven can their conscience truly rest.

God makes clear, in the image of the sin sacrifice, that there is a way to be completely free of guilt. Once the blood is on the altar, no guilt remains. We are forgiven-not only of the sinful acts, which is what the trespass offering is for, but of our sinful nature. Because of our ultimate sin offering, Jesus himself, we are no longer the same creatures we once were in Adam. Once we place our trust in Christ, there is a clean break between our old identity in Adam and our new identity in Christ.

“The last of the main Levitical offerings, the trespass offering, is almost indistinguishable from the sin offering.  Since we tend to equate sins with trespasses it seems somehow incongruous to have two offerings for this purpose.  Many writers on the subject understandably confuse the two offerings since there is considerable overlap in their application.

The difference has been explained on the basis of the doctrine of original sin in that the sin offering is to make atonement for the condition of our hearts before God, and the trespass offering is to deal with our misdeeds in relation to men.  This is a superficially reasonable explanation, and fairly close to correct, but can be improved upon in some important ways.

Jewish law is expressed in the Torah, the first five books of the Bible. The Torah does not directly concern itself with any teaching of original sin.  “Original sin” is the doctrine that every person born on earth is, from their very beginning at conception, polluted by sin and offensive to God.  It is from this state, or condition of sinfulness within, that the acts of disobedience proceed which we call sins. “One logical consequence of this belief is the practice of infant baptism by some Christian groups.  The intent is to mitigate this natural offensiveness due to sin and make the child a member of the church through proxy, and thus acceptable to God.  Another consequence is the perception that we are totally helpless and unable to even aspire to a relationship with God apart from his grace.  The latter may be quite true, though scripture clearly contradicts the former by Christ’s own attitude to children and his clear statements about their  innocence, spiritual condition and acceptability to the angels and to his Father, irrespective of baptism.

Quite apart from the question of the correctness of this doctrine of original sin, it is apparent that the sin offering is not a once in a lifetime offering to remove or cover over an inherited condition of general sinfulness.  It is an offering to be repeated as often as a person contravenes the law and thus breaks fellowship with God.  It is an offering primarily related to deeds rather than to state or condition, though its intent is to restore a state of grace and fellowship with God.  It is an offering[…]”

Thursday 11-17 Leviticus 7:19-38

Did you notice God has forbidden his people to partake in blood? Because blood was the river of life, and life was God’s gift and his alone, blood had to be returned to God and not used by people.

10“ ‘I will set my face against any Israelite or any foreigner residing among them who eats blood and I will cut them off from the people. 11For the life of a creature is in the blood and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life. Leviticus 17:10,11

The prohibition against eating blood can be traced all the way back to Noah (Genesis 9:4). God prohibited eating or drinking blood for several reasons: (1) To discourage pagan practices. Israel was to be separate and distinct from the foreign nations around them. Eating blood was a

common pagan practice. It was often done in hopes of gaining the characteristics of the slain animal (strength, speed, etc.). God’s people were to rely on him, not on ingested blood, for their strength. (2) To preserve the symbolism of the sacrifice. Blood symbolized the life of the animal that was sacrificed in the sinner’s place. To drink it would change the symbolism of the sacrificial penalty and destroy the evidence of the sacrifice. (3) To protect the people from infection because many deadly diseases are transmitted through the blood. The Jews took this prohibition seriously, and that is why Jesus’ hearers were so upset when Jesus told them to drink his blood (John 6:53-56). However, Jesus, as God himself and the last sacrifice ever needed for sins, was asking believers to identify with him completely. He wants us to take his life into us, and he wants to participate in our lives as well.

Friday 11-18  Leviticus 8:1-13

Why were priests needed in Israel? In Exodus 19:6, the Israelites were instructed to be a kingdom of priests; ideally they would all be holy and relate to God. But from the time of Adam’s fall, sin has separated humans and God, and people have needed mediators to help them find forgiveness. At first, the patriarchs—heads of households like Abraham and Job—were priests of the house or clan and made sacrifices for the family. When the Israelites left Egypt, the descendants of Aaron, from the tribe of Levi, were chosen to serve as priests for the nation. The priests stood in the gap between God and people. They were the full-time spiritual leaders and overseers of offerings. The priestly system was a concession to people’s inability, because of sin, to confront and relate to God individually and corporately. In Christ, this imperfect system was transformed. Jesus Christ himself is our High Priest. Now all believers can approach God through him.

Saturday 11-19   Leviticus 8:14-29

“Thus the primary instrument of consecration is the Spirit of God, but in order for Aaron to be consecrated other things are needed.  First he was washed.  Washing and water represent both baptism (repentance) and the word of God.  Both of these play important roles in our cleansing before God.  Next there were special garments of service to put on, each symbolic of the role that Aaron was to play as high priest in service to God and to Israel.  Then Aaron was anointed on the head with the special oil, representing the manner in which the Holy Spirit changes the way we think as we come to God.  Finally there were the sacrifices and the blood.

Before Aaron could actively participate in ministry a sin offering “was required.  Aaron, being a sinner like all the rest of us, needed an offering made on his behalf despite the fact that he was the high priest.  In contrast, when Jesus went to the cross he was making an offering for our sins, not for his own since he had none.  He became our sin offering just as this bull became the sin offering of Aaron’s consecration.  A bull was the most expensive of the beasts and represented the importance of Aaron’s role and the weight of responsibility he was to bear.  The large cattle were also emblems of service, being common beasts of work in the agricultural society of the time.  All of the offerings for Aaron were conducted by Moses, just as God was responsible for providing us with the offering of his son.”

Sunday 11-20 Leviticus 8:30-9:7

So Aaron and his sons did everything the Lord commanded through Moses. Leviticus 8:36

Considering the many detailed lists of Leviticus, that was a remarkable feat. They knew what God wanted, how he wanted it done, and with what attitude it was to be carried out. This can serve as a model for how carefully we ought to obey God. God wants us to be thoroughly holy people, not a rough approximation of the way his followers should be.

Leviticus 10:1-15 Unleavened Bread

The Festival of Unleavened Bread reminded Israel of their escape from Egypt. For seven days they ate unleavened bread, just as they had eaten it back then (Exodus 12:14-15). The symbolism of this bread made without yeast was important to the Israelites. First, because the bread was unique, it illustrated Israel’s uniqueness as a nation. Second, because yeast was a symbol of sin, the yeast-less bread represented Israel’s moral purity. Third, the baking method reminded them to obey quickly. Their ancestors left the yeast out of their dough so they could leave Egypt quickly without waiting for the dough to rise.

“Jesus is the First Fruits of the barley harvest. He is:
• the firstborn of Mary (Mat 1:23-25)
• the first-begotten of God the Father (Heb 1:6)
• the firstborn of every creature (Col 1:15)
• the first-begotten from the dead (Rev 1:5)
• the firstborn of many brethren (Rom 8:29)
• the first fruits of the resurrected ones (1 Cor 15:20,23)
• the beginning of the creation of God (Rev 3:14)
• the preeminent one (Col 1:18)

Take extra time to thank God for the first Jesus signifies.

Happy Thanksgiving Thursday 11-24

Festival of weeks

Festival of weeks It was in essence similar to our Thanksgiving Day which celebrates the end of the harvest. But now imagine that instead of having Christmas a month after Thanksgiving, we had another Thanksgiving Day to thank God for the abundance that the harvest brings. The whole time would be focused on giving thanks to God. That is what happening here only the time frame is 50 days instead of 30 days. This feast was a great celebration of how God had provided an abundant harvest for the people once again.

But there is another aspect in Jewish history that is often overlooked when it comes to this feast. Exodus 19:1 states that the giving of the Law at Sinai began in the third month after Passover and so later Jewish tradition related this feast to the giving of the Law at Sinai. Thus later on during the Feast of Weeks at the time of Jesus, the synagogue prayers would refer to this feast as “the time of the giving of our law.” The Passover and Pentecost were linked then as salvation and gratitude in the people’s lives. They recognized that while God saved them from Egypt, without obedience to the law it meant nothing.

Today, thank God for the abundance you have. Thank God for all the people who have brought God’s word to you life.�

Day of Atonement

The Day of Atonement was the greatest day of the year for Israel. The Hebrew word for atone means “to cover.” Old Testament sacrifices could not actually remove sins, only cover them. On this day, the people confessed their sins as a nation, and the high priest went into the Most Holy Place to make atonement for them. Sacrifices were made and blood was shed so that the people’s sins could be “covered” until Christ’s sacrifice on the cross would give people the opportunity to have their sin removed forever.

Hebrews 10:14 is the fulfillment of the Old Covenant Day of Atonement. In fact Hebrews 10 is a story of how upon Jesus death on the Cross he entered into the presence of God offering His blood for our sins. For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. Hebrews 10:14

Thank God for Jesus, for all He is, and done, and what he will do in your life.

Festival of booths

On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” John 7:37,38
So when we hear Jesus cry out at the feast of booths, “If any one thirst, let him come to me and drink,” we understand him to mean, “If you are thirsty for God, if you are longing for the consolation of Israel (Luke 2:25), if you are eagerly looking for the kingdom of God (Luke 23:51), for deliverance from sin and oppression, then no longer look back to the days of old, and don’t look forward to the future—look to me. In me all the past is summed up, and in me the future hope has arrived. If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.” O, how important it is for us to know who it is from whom we drink! All the drinking in the world will not satisfy us if we do not see the historical magnitude of Jesus Christ our fountainhead. The water he gives tastes bland to many people because he has not been seen in his true biblical proportions: as the one who dominates all of history, summing up in himself all the grace and power of God manifest in previous ages, and embodying in the present the hope of future glory. All of history exists for the sake of Jesus; God shapes it all for his glory. John Piper

Thank God for history and how he arranged all of history to bring Jesus.

Breast of Thanksgiving Heave shoulder Offering.

In addition to the wave breast of thanksgiving in which the wave breast is waved before the Lord, there is another voluntary offering performed at the same time. In addition to the wave Breast of Thanksgiving, there is heave shoulder. The wave breast is waved before the altar of the Lord; the heave shoulder is heaved. What I want to know is this; Does the Priest heave it at the Lord? Does he throw the shoulder of the ram of consecration-a ram that,, before the priest played and changed it, had been perfect and whole, not “Blind, or broken or maimed, or having a wen, or scurvy, or scabbed. . .bruised, or crushed, or broken, or cut-does he hurl it across the tabernacle, between the bloodied horns of the altar, at God? Now look at what you made me do. And then he eats it. This heave is violent, desperate way of catching God’s Eye. It is not inappropriate. We are people; we are permitted to have dealings with the creator and we must speak up for creation. God look at what you have done to this creature, look at the sorrow, the cruelty, the long damned waste! Can it possibly, ludicrously be for this that on this unconscious planet with my innocent kind I play softball all spring, to develop my throwing arm? Can you feel Annie Dillard’s anger at God, or the futility of man’s attempt at correcting the destruction of creation by sin? This advent look at how broken we are, our world is. If you lived in the book of Leviticus, you would have wanted anything but this damnable sacrificial system.

The fact is the Creator is not at fault, but the choice of Adam and Eve! For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23 Why does the dog return to his own vomit time and time again?

This is what meant when he said; So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. Gal 3:24 Thank God for the futility of the Sacrificial system that longed for a better sacrifice, till Jesus came.

Sin is like plaster dust. It gets everywhere, into every nook and cranny of the house of my soul. It also never gives up. Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch—as you really are. Leviticus 14:10-26
God told the Israelites how to diagnose defiling skin diseases and mold so they could avoid them or treat them. These laws were given for the people’s health and protection. They helped the Israelites avoid diseases that were serious threats in that time and place. Although they wouldn’t have understood the medical reasons for some of these laws, their obedience to them made them healthier. Many of God’s laws must have seemed strange to the Israelites. His laws, however, helped them avoid not only physical contamination, but also moral and spiritual infection. The Word of God still provides a pattern for physically, spiritually, and morally healthy living. We may not always understand the wisdom of God’s laws, but if we obey them, we will thrive. Does this mean we are to follow the Old Testament health and dietary restrictions? In general, the basic principles of health and cleanliness are still healthful practices, but it would be legalistic, if not wrong, to adhere to each specific restriction today. Some of these regulations were intended to mark the Israelites as different from the wicked people around them. Others were given to prevent God’s people from becoming involved in pagan religious practices, one of the most serious problems of the day. Still others related to quarantines in a culture where exact medical diagnosis was impossible. Today, for example, physicians can diagnose the different forms of leprosy, and they know which ones are contagious. Treatment methods have greatly improved, and quarantine for leprosy is rarely necessary.

Part of the whole skin disease, teaching is that we live in a world that is broken by sin and can become unclean without and fault of ourselves. Paul put’s it this way; “ We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies. “ Romans 8:22,23

In prayer tell God this advent how you long for the redemption of our bodies, and the reality of our sonship in Christ at the second coming.

Leviticus 14:43-57

“If it seems that Leviticus has an obsession with washing people, clothing and things, it is probably because simple personal hygiene was the most effective medical defense available at the time. In fact it probably still is our most effective defense. Cleanliness is also a great virtue in the absence of deodorants, especially in a hot climate.
These days washing ourselves and changing our clothes is a daily duty for most of us. At the time Leviticus was written cloth manufacture was a time and labor intensive process. Consequently clothing was far more expensive than it is now. Many people had only a few changes of clothes, and owned perhaps only one set for regular use. Changing clothes daily was likely not the norm, and washing would need to be a stipulated requirement on recovering from illness.
One result of the Levitical laws of cleanliness was to give the Jewish people a reputation throughout “the ancient world for being scrupulously clean as regards their physical bodies, personal habits and food.”

To be holy is not just to be separate, but to be uncommonly different. It is fulfilled in 1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

As you prepare for light pure, holy , light this advents since what darkness or dirt in your life needs to be removed? So your praise to God is heard?

Finding the Messiah in Leviticus Sunday 12-4
Leviticus 15:1-15

The main idea in these chapters in Leviticus this week are, that disease and decay are incompatible with the blessing of the presence of God in the assembly of His people. God is holy, and in contrast to that disease and decay remind us that we live in a fallen world, and that we ourselves have the effects of the fall exhibited in our bodies. It’s a picture…it’s a type, as it were, of sin. And therefore these diseases (if they are accorded to be one of the serious diseases in this passage, upon the inspection, the examination of the priests) become things which exclude you from the assembly of God’s people in His presence and worship.

You may say why that’s not fair! And I would agree with you and that is part of God’s teaching. In a world filled with sin you become contaminated without trying. It is humanly impossible to remain impure? So how can man be saved?

A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Matthew 8:2 This advent season ask Jesus to clean you from top to bottom.

The verses in this section are not implying that sex is dirty or disgusting. God created sex for (1) the enjoyment of married couples, (2) the continuation of the race, and (3) the preservation of the covenant. Everything must be seen and done with a view toward God’s love and ultimate authority. Sex is not separate from spirituality and God’s care. God is concerned about our sexual habits, for they form and reveal our relationship to our heavenly Father. He designed us, including our sexuality, as wonderfully complex and unified spiritual creatures. We tend to separate our physical and spiritual lives, but there is an inseparable intertwining. God must be

Lord over our whole being—including our sex lives. In what ways do you acknowledge your relationship with God in your sexuality? Read Ephesians 5:21-33. What “profound mystery does our Sexuality reveal? How does this section reveal both God’s demand for Holiness and how Jesus Christ meets that demand?

Leviticus 16:15-34

If any of the citizens of Israel do something forbidden by the LORD, they will be guilty even if they sinned unintentionally. When they become aware of their sin, they must bring . . . [an] offering (4:27–28).

[I reflect]

We often forget that the Israelite worship center was a slaughterhouse. It was a place where birds were torn apart with bare hands, where the plunge of knives turned livestock into dead-stock, where blood flowed in trenches, and the odor of charred flesh filled the nostrils of worshipers. Death was ever present in the house of God—a reminder of the consequences of sin.”

Take a moment and review all the consequences you have known from sin. Then thank God Almighty for Jesus.

It was a place where birds were torn apart with bare hands, where the plunge of knives turned livestock into dead-stock, where blood flowed in trenches, and the odor of charred flesh filled the nostrils of worshipers. Death was ever present in the house of God—a reminder of the consequences of sin.”

“We are spared the necessity of such a messy corollary to our worship. Christ’s death on the cross is the only sacrifice we need to escape the penalty due to our sin, becoming effective for us when we put our faith in him. Nothing we can do will either earn or add to our acceptance by God through Christ.”

“Yet there is this: God desires the free offering of our worship. “With Jesus’ help, let us continually offer our sacrifice of praise to God by proclaiming the glory of his name” (Hebrews 13:15). It pleases God when we praise him, not in the hope of receiving anything in return, but just because we love him for all he is and all he has done.

Our worship is always a response to God giving to us. And as his mercy and grace are infinite, so our worship must never be ending, daily, even moment by moment. Death will only modulate our singing of “Holy, holy, holy” upward to richer chords of praise.

Such worship resounds with goodness. In this sense, it is no “sacrifice” at all; it takes nothing away from us but only gives. Worship is a circular system of blessings. God is the source, and we are the happy participants.

[I pray]

Lord, may my praise to you flow more freely than the blood of bulls in temple days. I worship you for your great goodness to me.”

Leviticus 18:1-18

“Though it is popular today to tolerate or even encourage homosexuality, the Bible is clearly opposed to any form of homosexual practice. Our society does not permit kleptomaniacs to indulge their tendencies by going about taking from others anything they please. Whether these individuals are born with kleptomaniac tendencies, or they have acquired it as a disease of the mind, is not relevant to the issue. Neither is an acceptable excuse or cause to give expression to the antisocial desire to steal.

A normal sex drive gives rise to desires which we learn to control and repress in the interest of social harmony. Most of us, men and women, whether heterosexual or otherwise, manage to avoid committing sexual crimes such as rape. Some heterosexuals choose to remain single rather than marry. A good proportion of those who are married manage to obey God and avoid giving social offense by not committing adultery.

Perhaps those homosexuals who wish to observe Biblical principles could manage to similarly control their urges and abstain from sexual activity that God says displeases him. Theft is prohibited in thought (‘Thou shalt not covet’) as well as in deed.

Leviticus 19:1-16

“We have said that holiness is not about separation or about behavior, but chapters 19 and 20 might tend to make one wonder. They introduce themselves by saying that Israel should be holy because their God is holy. Obviously that does not mean God is separated in some way from certain aspects of his creation or that he is a rule keeper at heart. Any separation on God’s part is a consequence of his dedication to the purpose of loving and caring for his creation. The rules he makes are part of that purpose.

As we read through this list of commandments we can see how that care is shown in many details – respecting parents, ensuring regular time for rest and contemplation, and providing for strangers and the poor. Some aspects of these commandments are particularly noteworthy and interesting: Leviticus 19:15,16 shows that it is not just about what we must not do but also about what we should not neglect to do, since a great support of evil comes from our failure to stand up against wrong doing when we are not personally the target”

This advent prayerful find how for yourself you will stand up against evil, and begin to act on it.
I.E. Give up a Christmas gift and donate to a godly cause. How are you going to support God’s holiness?

Leviticus 19:17-31

The Old Testament Law gave protection for the poor and the foreigner and a reminder that God owned the land; the people were only caretakers. Laws such as this showed God’s generosity and liberality. As people of God, the Israelites were to reflect his nature and characteristics in  their attitudes and actions.

During advent how is God’s generosity and liberality being shone through your actions? Verse Eighteen states “‘Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord. Is that being expressed in your life and your family this advent?

Leviticus 19:32 Stand up in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God. I am the Lord. People find the Messiah when we treat others as God has treated us.

People often find it easy to dismiss the opinions of the elderly and avoid taking time to visit with them. But the fact that God commanded the Israelites to honor the elderly shows how seriously we should take the responsibility of respecting those older than we are. Their wisdom gained from experience can save us from many pitfalls. How do you show respect and honor to your elders? Tyndale (2012-02-17). December 14 Leviticus 20:9-27

Sacrificing children to the gods was a common practice in ancient religions. The Ammonites,
Israel’s neighbors, made child sacrifice to Molek (their national god) a vital part of their religion. They saw this as the greatest gift they could offer to ward off evil or appease angry gods. God made it clear that this practice was detestable and strictly forbidden.

Almighty God’s, character made human sacrifice unthinkable. (1) Unlike the pagan gods, he is the God of love, who does not need to be appeased-because he loves mankind made in his image. And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, Exodus 34:6. (2) He is the God of life, who prohibits murder and encourages practices that lead to health and happiness See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. 16 For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess. Deuteronomy 30:15-16. (3) He is the God of the helpless, who shows special concern for children May he defend the afflicted among the people and save the children of the needy; may he crush the oppressor. Psalm 72:4. (4) He is the God of unselfishness who, instead of demanding human sacrifices, sacrificed himself for us. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.Isaiah 53:5.

Verse seven of today’s verses, God declare’s He makes us holy. So who on earth-man or  woman, receives God’s favor? pause Those who are holy! Leviticus 20:8 Keep my decrees  and follow them. I am the Lord, who makes you holy. Holiness and anointing are either attained by perfectly keeping all of God’s decrees, in the entire history of OT, no one made it. Or in faith trusting God’s Messiah to make you holy!
